Softball swept by Bethel

Lisa Jacobs
The St. Kate's softball team showed the rust of not having played a game in over a week. In fact, they played like two different teams in their double header against Bethel University. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, neither of teams they played like were able to pick up a win. The Wildcats lost 10-0 in five innings in game one. In game two they took the Royals to the wire before ultimately losing 4-3 in extra innings.
In game one Bethel jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. The Wildcats managed only three hits in the game. Jessica Kniefel, Andrea Boser and Lisa Jacobs were all 1-for-2. Tianna Allen (4-8) took the loss.
In game two the Wildcats team that stared conference play 6-2 showed up. The game was scoreless through the first two-innings. The teams then traded runs for the next three innings, and the score was tied 3-3 at the end of five innings of play.
Neither team was able to score in the sixth or seventh, so the game headed into extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth Bethel put together two singles and scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
In game two Jacobs again led the offense. She was 1-for-4 with two rbis and one run scored.
Kayla Bergerson (3-7) pitched well but took the tough luck loss.
Kelly Berg led the Royals offense. She was 4-for-6 with a single, double, triple and home run in the two games played. She also collected three rbis and had scored three times.
The losses drop the Wildcats to 7-15 overall, and 6-4 in MIAC play.
St. Kate's will look to get back to their winning ways when they travel to Northfield to play St. Olaf College at 4pm on Tuesday April 15.
